Dr. GR Sahibi is a retired IFS Officer from HP Cadre
He is PhD in Environment & Ecology, AIFC and PGcCC (Climate Change)
He retired from the apex post of Govt of HP in Dec 2017 as Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HOD Ecotourism & Publicity) cum Member Secretary Ecotourism HP,
He’s a work experience of 38 years of working in the fields of Forest finance, Policy &Planning, Project formulation, soil & water conservation, wildlife & forests Management, Monitoring & evaluation, CAT plan preparation & management of natural resources, FCA clearances, Logging operations under commercial working & revenue generation, balance sheet preparation, Human Resource Development/Management, Policy preparation, in-situ & ex-situ conservation, ecosystem restoration, rainwater harvesting and recharging of aquifer,socio-ecological dimension, Sustainable ecotourism, urban ecology & green cover development, mitigation strategy with adaptive capacity indicators for climate change.
He has worked as a Team leader of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Forestry, and watershed development with the World Bank, DFID(UK), and Norwegian project, Rural Development Projects for climate resilience, poverty alleviation & socio- ecological –economic dimension, sustainable development and strengthening the livelihood options,
During the year 2022-23 Acted as a Team Leader cum Senior Environment specialty for natural resource Management cum protected area management with community mobilization while strengthening their livelihood on the Western coast.
He is a Researcher, a Poet, an Author, a Trekker, a Policy Maker, and a Resource person for institutes like MGSIPA Chandigarh, HIPA Shimla, HFRI SHIMLA, UHF Nauni Solan, and other reputed Universities.
He’s prepared an Ecotourism Policy 2017 for the Government of HP State which is in the public domain and being executed by the Govt of HP for Eco-tourism promotion, development of entrepreneur skills, and employment generation along with achieving SDGs.
He’s attended several State, National & International seminars in Southeast Asia & European countries and made presentations of his research papers on climate change & NTFP orally which have been published in State and International journals.
Besides serving in the Forest department of HP he remained on State deputation with the HPPWD and HPSFC and also Conducted elections at various occasions on Central deputation as a General Observer appointed by the Election Commission of India.
His main field is spreading information in society, especially amongst the youths for self-employment, poverty alleviation, women empowerment, ecotourism promotion, climate change adaptation & mitigation, project formulation, and Nature Conservation.
He presided over as Chief Guest for North India Vice Chancellors conference in Haryana during, 2021-2022 organized by HP Regulatory Commission for pvt Educational Institutes.
